I willalso be explaining which of the other characters and draw events in theplay have the biggest impacts on Eddie and his downfall.In the opening facet of the play, the audience is shown the setting ofthe play, which is the harbour area of Brooklyn near the Brooklynbridge. When it shows Eddie with Beatrice and Catherine their use of communion initially suggests to the audience that they get along welland that there is a general happy family atmosphere. The scene givesthe audience the impression that Eddie is a good homo who seemsperfectly happy with his life since he has the dignity of a blood line thathe likes and the get along of his family. T he audience also find out thatEddie is non related to Catherine which is an important fact toremember about him. Even though Eddie is not Catherines real fatherhe is still extremely over-protective of her, which suggests he mayfeel a bit too strongly for her and it is this love which is in factthe tragic flaw that eventually leads to his downfall. However, Catherinegained her confidence and liberty a little more toward the end ofthe play. Eddies possessiveness and dominance over Catherinesuffocated her into staying a baby, but I feel she could/should havebeen more self- aware, especially of the fact around her.
